My 1945 Michigan Train Crash Story by Dennis Hopman (MHS '51)

I remember the train wreck very vividly.  I was 12 years old at the time and was one of the first people at the scene.  It was the most gruesome sight I have ever seen in my life.   A lot of dead bodies being carried out of the wreck.  A lot of them were military men that had served World War II.  The lady that the article referred to hanging out the window was very true.  It took the men using cutting torches along time to get her free.  When they did get her free she bled to death.  Her arteries were pinched shut until she got out.
