1st Lt. Charles A. Lepley, 1945 train crash victim
Note: I received the following information from Richard Klapper. Richard had posted this wedding picture of Charles and Dorothy Lepley along with a picture of Charles' foot stone on "findagrave.com".
Charles was the first husband of my wife's mother, Dorothy Mae Short. She married Charles on July 20, 1943 in her mother's house on Gibbs Street in San Antonio, Texas. Charles was killed two years later in the train wreck in Michigan, ND. Charles and Dorothy had no children.
Dorothy remarried Milton Charles Ursell on Jan. 4, 1947 in San Antonio, Texas and they had 5 children. Unfortunately, Dorothy died in 2008.
Charles was born in Pennsylvania on Sept. 16, 1908 and was baptized on Nov. 27, 1910 in the Grace United Methodist Church in Lewistown, Miffin Co., Pennsylvania. His parents were Charles H. and Lucy S. Lepley. According to the 1920 and 1930 censuses, Charles had 3 sisters and a brother, Alberta M. (born 1911), Ruth E. (born 1914) Margaretta (born 1915) and Russell W. (born 1917).
Charles enlisted in the Army on Jan. 23, 1941.
I'm afraid this isn't much help, but I can at least tell you that Charles has no living descendants. Best of luck with your monument dedication.
